Alongside a raft of top-drawer story content and two new jobs, Shadowbringers has introduced a vast number of improvements to existing jobs, making many of them more effective, user-friendly, and fun to play. Many roles have seen small tweaks to potency and skill speed, and a couple have undergone a more substantial rework, while a few of them feel like they need additional rebalancing. Updated May 30th, by Meg Pelliccio: Final Fantasy XIV continues to thrive with its large player base, consistent content updates, and regular expansion releases.
Fans have been playing the latest expansion, Shadowbringers, for a while now and so it's only natural that they start looking forward to the next and wonder what jobs it might add. Square Enix is always careful in what roles it adds as it has to ensure that there is a balance for players, as a result, the addition of new jobs usually sees updates being made to pre-existing jobs to rebalance them. It's plausible that at least one of these will be added in the future, as XIV already features the mammets puppets that were paired with the Puppetmaster role.
Beastmaster is also a firm fan-favorite that players hope will be added, as XIV offers a whole range of new monsters that players hope to tame. Additionally, Blue Mage cannot be used to progress the main scenario, nor can retainers take on this role, but on the plus side, it does earn more experience points for battling in the open world compared to other jobs.
Similar to Blue Mage from XIplayers must go around and battle specific monsters in order to learn their attacks. While the other classes have been nicely streamlined in 5. Rather than a simple combo, the Monk uses a range of skills that can be chained together in several different orders. Despite its relatively low damage, Ninja was the golden child of the 4.
However, for the skill to be effective, it needs to be used properly, which tends to elude many players. In addition, Mudra techniques require several fast inputs that are all too easy to mess up in the heat of battle. Thankfully, in a recent live letter, the developers announced there are some adjustments coming to Ninja in a forthcoming patch.
Exactly what these changes are, remains to be seen, but we know they will affect the way the Trick Attack and Mudra skills work. Something is up with the Samurai. As of ShadowbringersSamurai feels strangely weak.
Some of the new finishing moves are welcome additions, particularly against single targets, and filling the Kenki gauge is easier now. However, the new Shoha skill ties in with the Meditation mechanic, making it difficult to implement, even under the best battle conditions. Red Mage has been a fun class ever since it launched with the Stormblood expansion.
It also has some questionable utility. Previously a favorite class of any ranged DPS player who valued raid synergy, the Bards of the past combined reasonable damage output with a battalion of support skills, including self-buffs, party buffs, and enemy debuffs.
Thankfully, the developers saw fit to provide the class with a significant base damage increase to make up for its drop-in utility.
Overall, Bard is still viable, even for the most difficult, top-tier content. Summoner has always felt like a great balance of damage and utility.Picking the right role from all the different FFXIV classes which subsequently become jobs is a crucial choice.
The difference in playstyle for each is vast and finding the job that resonates with you is really important. Luckily you're able to change your job at any point in the game if you've reached the appropriate level, so you can try all of them out eventually. This means you can play more than one, but not everyone has the time to hit level cap in all of them. With this handy guide, you can get a feel for each of the FFXIV classes and jobs, and whether they are better suited to beginners or those with several hours under their belt.
Here's an overview of each job listed in order of appearance, role, and ease of use. Monk is all about a constant flow of attacks to sustain a high level of DPS. With the ability to unleash rapid flurries of kicks and punches, the Monk's at their best when flowing effortlessly through their rotation. Once you master that, you'll feel like a damage-dealing god.
Focused more on supporting the other members of your group. The Bard uses a mix of ballads to rally the team to victory. Unlock this role and glide around the perimeter of the battlefield flinging arrows at anything naive enough to drift within range. Ninja is one of the more exciting jobs in XIV. Weaving the hand-signs of Ten, Chi, and Jin, you can pull off devastating attacks.
The myriad combat combos the Ninja has at their disposal means will prepare you for any situation. Even among the game's heaviest of hitters, few can match Black Mage. Transform yourself into a veritable turret that spits damaging destruction to anything in its path. MP management is critical in keeping your damage above all others, but learning the rotation isn't too tricky.
The challenge comes when you're moving and not casting spells: this is a real hindrance to your overall damage dealing, and can make you pretty vulnerable. Like being the star? Dragoons are the flashy job in FFXIV as they roam the battlefield with their lance in hand and make quick work of enemies with assertive attacks.
Dragoon skills slowly introduce you to the rotation and the importance of positioning. With Primals as battle pets, the Summoner commands them to sow chaos amid enemy ranks. Master the placement and management of your pet fully while also slinging spells is challenging, but rewarding. Fancy dipping your toe in the world of healing?
Then White Mage is for you. Primarily employing HP-restoring spells, White Mage is there to keep everyone in the fight.

FFXIV: Race Starting Stats Guide
Roleplay Events Chronicled Events Public events such as tavern gatherings, hunts, talent shows, etc. Player Directory Player bulletin board used to display individual RP styles and preferences, along with various individual announcements absences, storyline seeking, etc. There are many to choose from, which often raises the question as to what the differences are between each one of them. The Hyur are a race who have been known for travelling to Eorzea from the surrounding locations. This trait has made them one of the most populated races within the game.
This race are described as being of modest physical appearance, though they have strangely shaped ears. Hyur are known for travelling by foot, which makes them a swift race to choose from.
Which FFXIV race are you?
Boasting a variety of spoken languages and traditionsthey are certainly an interesting choice, especially if you are looking for a more human-like appearance. Unlike the Hyur, the Elezen presents a more elf-like appearance. They are tall and slim, and tend to live longer than the other races on the list.
Their belief of this would eventually lead to conflict with the Hyur when they would arrive, which would be viewed as an invasion. Meanhwile, you have the Lalafellwho differ quite a lot to the previous two races. In fact, they are much shorterand appear to have a more childlike appearance.
They live an agricultural life and take advantage of new trade routes in Eorzea to explore pastures new. Now, you will find many Lalafell living on Eorzea, who mix well with other races despite being known as a group that are very close to each other.
Adapting to a predatory way of life has made them prominent hunters. They also tend to be very territorial compared to other races, so you may find them rather secluded. For a more standout figure for your chosen race, look no further than the stocky Roegadyn.
They feature huge muscular bodieswhich makes them very noticeable from a distance. They are considered to be a more barbaric race than others. These brawny brutes with piercing eyes are the largest race in the gamethough they are in fewer numbers compared to others. The Au Ra race were introduced during Heavensward. They are of a dragon-like appearancewith scaleshorns and tails. Their origins are often disputed when compared to the Hyur, though its often maintained that their individual roots differ entirely.
What sets them aside is their advanced hearingand the differing appearances between the males and females.
Viera is a predominantly female-only racewith appearances very similar to the Hyur, with one of the only obvious differences being their long ears. This particular race are bound by a code known as the Green Wordwhich sees them exiled from any kind of contact with the outside world.
Any males of this race are rare, and are uncommonly found within the confines of this clan. Instead, the Viera opt for protecting their precious land from any dangers. The Hrothgar were introduced in Shadowbringersand are limited to male-only if you want to play as them. This burly race comes from Ilsabardand in opposite fashion to the Viera, it is the female population of this race that is particularly low. Their lion-esque appearances and inability to communicate made them a dangerous and mysterious race when first arriving in Eorzea.
It was only when the Hrothgar managed to adapt to the local dialect that they were no longer seen as foes, putting an end to many a conflict. Before deciding what race you choose, you may want to know exactly what the differences are between them. Rather than individual differences between each race, there are general traits that set them all aside. You will notice one difference being that they are predominantly cosmetic. So the main features which sets them apart are traits such as emoteswhich are different for every race.
You also have differing outfits and animations. The latter mainly depends on what gender of certain races you choose. With the influx of new and returning players, many will be eager to figure out which job class to focus on or how to gain amazing powerful gear.
Others might be less concerned about raw stats and are after the latest Glamour fashion. Along with the update, the Au Ra race is now freely available to all players. With 8 races and 16 clans possible for those that own Shadowbringersit can be a tough choice of what kind of character to make.
There are very subtle differences in quests dialogue, mounts, and even minor stat augments. If one changes their mind, there are also Fantasia potions to return to character creation. Once consumed, the player will have the option of recreating said character during login. These are mailed to players and can be collected by speaking to any Delivery Moogle within towns.
A free Fantasia is also now granted for completing the level 50 main story quest The Ultimate Weapon. Square Enix will often award complimentary Fantasias for limited-time promotional events and sells them for real currency on the Mog Station.
Characters created during the 1. Players must use or forfeit this free rebuild before starting A Realm Reborn. These characters will be marked as surviving the Calamity from the introduction and will have an exclusive tattoo on the back of their lower neck. Additionally, characters that completed all story missions during 1. Each of the playable races are divided into two clans with different heritages and physical aesthetics.
The clans have bonuses and penalties to the five combat stats: Strength, Dexterity, Vitality, Intelligence, and Mind. However, this is a small value of between points and will be negligible around level To put it in the greater perspective 6 points is approximately 0.
Large and small characters may find themselves awkwardly squatting or jumping during otherwise serious story moments. The larger Highlander clan is less common but can be found in Ala Mhigo.
Although not given much special dialogue in A Realm RebornHyur will have more acknowledgment when speaking to their clansmen in Heavensward and Stormblood. Highlanders in particular may have some alternate interactions when dealing with Raubahn and Yda, two important Highlander NPCs. Hyur may have some unique interactions with Hume, their equivalent on the First Shard.
Midlanders have a bonus in Intelligence and slight penalties in Dexterity and Mind. Highlanders boosted stat is Strength and low stat is Intelligence.FFXIV Races
